Social Work in Central Asia

This course is designed for anyone interested in social work and Central Asia. The objectives of the course is to:

• Explain the historical context, development, and common challenges of social work across Central Asia.
• Explore the evolution of social work and the current situation in this area in Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

This course can be completed in 1-3 hours. It features two modules: "Introduction to Social Work in Central Asia" and "Social Work in the Penitentiary System." Each module includes readings and videos, followed by a short quiz to assess your understanding.

Drug Consumption Rooms

This course is open and free to everyone interested in understanding drug consumption rooms (DCRs) and their role in harm reduction, public health, and social work. Developed by the SOLID project in collaboration with the Global Public Health Network, the course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of DCRs, their significance, models, operational frameworks, and future trends.

This course is designed for anyone interested in psychoactive substance use, drug policy, harm reduction, public health, social work, psychology, and the penitentiary system. It’s for students, healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, or someone simply looking to learn more about this important topic.

International Prison Standards

This course provides an in-depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities of social workers within the criminal justice system, with a particular focus on prison standards. Participants will explore the historical development and current application of international prison standards, including the Nelson Mandela Rules, Tokyo Rules, and Bangkok Rules. The course also addresses the challenges faced by incarcerated individuals and the critical role social workers play in advocating for prisoners' rights, providing culturally competent treatment, and supporting reintegration into society.

This course is designed for social workers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, legal practitioners, prison staff, researchers, and students interested in the criminal justice system, prison reform, and the promotion of human rights within correctional facilities.

HIV and HCV Rapid Testing for People Who Using Drugs

This course provides comprehensive training on the biology, transmission, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of HIV and HCV. Participants will learn about the principles and practices of rapid testing for these viruses, including pre-test and post-test counseling. The course also covers the ethical, legal, and social implications of testing, and offers guidance on working with vulnerable populations, particularly people who use drugs.

This course is designed for healthcare professionals, community health workers, social workers, and volunteers involved in public health and harm reduction services. It is also suitable for those working in low-threshold service centers, HIV and HCV prevention programs, and individuals interested in expanding their knowledge on rapid testing and counseling for these infections.

Basic Knowledge about Infectious Diseases

The course provides a useful introduction to themes related to the transmission of infections for anyone working with people affected by or at risk of infections diseases. This might included people who work in homelessness, community services, harm reduction, alcohol and other drugs, non-clinical health services and youth services. 

This course is designed for anyone interested in learning about infectious diseases and sexually transmitted diseases. It provide general information and is not designed for health professionals. The content is not for clinical practice and is not to be considered medical advice. 

Psychoterapeutic approaches

This course provides an introduction to the field of psychology and explores its application in social work practice. It examines key psychological perspectives and discusses how social workers can integrate psychological concepts into their work.
